BIPD Liability Numbers Explained

100/300/100

The first number is “100” in the example above. This represents your bodily injury coverage on a per person basis. In the scenario above, the “100” represents $100,000. That means if you put someone in the hospital, your insurance policy will cover up to $100,000 for their bodily injury. If you recall from earlier, that can range from medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and attorney’s fees.

100/300/100

The second number is a per occurrence basis. In the example above, you would have up to $100,000 per person. If three people were in the other car and all three people each had $100,000 in medical bills, your policy would reach its per occurrence limit of $300,000. If four people have $100,000 in medical bills, the coverage above would leave you $100,000 short! This can get scary if you carry lower bodily injury limits like 25/50/10. But wait! What does that last number mean?

100/300/100

The final number of the triumvirate is property damage coverage limits. The coverage above shows 100/300/100. The “100” at the end means it covers you up to $100,000 in property damage caused as a result of an at-fault accident. Lots of people choose a low-cost policy and have $10,000 in property damage coverage. Imagine hitting a luxury car or two while only carrying $10,000 in coverage.

Why Understanding BIPD Limits is Important for Drivers in Bradenton, Parrish, Lakewood Ranch, and Sarasota

Understanding what these numbers mean can change the way you look at your Florida auto insurance policy. For residents in Bradenton, Parrish, Lakewood Ranch, and Sarasota, having the right level of coverage can mean the difference between financial security and financial hardship after an accident.

If you are worried you may not have enough liability coverage to protect your income and assets, It’s important to talk to your agent about getting price comparisons for better options.

I’ve personally had clients who thought they had good coverage with 100/300/100 and unfortunately, it ended up not being enough after a very expensive accident.
